Richard moved to Seoul in 2006, shortly after earning his Bachelor’s Degree at UC Irvine. Once over the initial learning curve, Richard was working 12 hour days and attending office gatherings (hoesik) like a local.
He became interested in the Korean language while employed at a marketing firm. After two years of independent study, he was able to translate Korean emails into English, much to the delight of his coworkers.
Gradually, he gained the ability to translate everything from contracts to customer facing material. Even though he became proficient in Korean to English translation, he never hesitates to collaborate with others when encountering ambiguity.
When not working, he enjoys designing websites and learning other languages. Richard divides his time during the year between Korea, China, Japan and the US to find talented linguists.
